PLEXs can be bought in real life with real money or in game with in game money, although there is no way to sell a plex for real money. So no, people dont make money at all off of this game. The figures they show in these articles are just the irl price of the PLEXs they can buy with the in game money.

When these cars make up the majority then they should definitely not be considered as a bonus. 200 proper cars over 6 years is just pathetic. It's pretty clear that they weren't spending that time on the tracks either, as they generally look even worse than the standard cars.
